The brain possess remarkable structural and functional plasticity in response to stress. Stress causes cognition disorders, thinking and memory problems, sleep problems, autoimmune diseases, cancer, reproductive issues, weight problems, as well as anxiety, depression and other mood alterations. This imbalance, in turn, affects neuroendocrine, endocrine, immune and metabolic pathways.
Neuroendocrinology therefore investigates an interface between the nervous system (hypothalamus), pituitary gland, peripheral endocrine systems and different hormone disorders.
